What you need to know

Transplantation is one of the most remarkable success stories in the history of medicine. But despite continuing advances in medicine and technology, the need for organs and tissue is vastly greater than the number available for transplantation.

Transplantation gives hope to thousands of people with organ failure and provides many others with active and renewed lives.

Cleveland MOTTEP (Minority Organ Tissue Transplant Education Program) was established in 1995 as a local affiliate of National MOTTEP, which was founded in 1991 by Dr. Clive Callender, a Howard University transplant surgeon.  Its mission is to promote awareness through education and advocacy about organ and tissue donation, transplantation and issues related to prevention and wellness. The mission of Cleveland MOTTEP is “to decrease the number and rate of people in need of organ and tissue transplants and to increase the number of organ and tissue donors in the Greater Cleveland African American community”.
